GuitarThe Band was formed in 1968 by Rick Foster and Barry Mayger.

They signed a deal with CBS records in 1969.

Their first few singles flopped however the single "Excuse me Baby" released in 1971

made the charts and secured them a slot on the BBC show " Top of The Pops".

Chicory Tip's crowning glory came in 1972,

when their studio manager Roger Easterby came across an advance copy of a song

written by "Giorgio Moroder" and "Pete Bellotte".

The song was "Son Of My Father".Convinced of its success he insisted they record their own version.

It was rush released in competition with the original version.

Riding on the crest of the wave of glam rock the group's stage outfits were outrageous with glitter outfits and face paint.

In February 1972 it reached number 1!

in the Uk charts and was also a european hit.

"Son Of My Father" was the first single to feature a moog synthesiser.

Two further hits followed with "What's Your Name"also in 1972 and "Good Grief Christina" in 1973.

Rick Foster left in 1972 to join "Edison Lighthouse"and was repaced by Rod Cloutt.

Another release in 1973 was "Cigarettes, Women and Wine" but despite heavy airplay it failed to chart.

The image promoted by the band was of a glam pop band however on stage they sounded more heavy rock.

Brian Shearer left in 1974 and was replaced by John Langley.

Barry also moved awy from the band in 1975 leaving Pete Hewson as the only original member.

Sadly they failed to widen their appeal and the band split in 1975.

Chicory tip reformed in 1996 for Rick's 50th party sadly without Pete Hewson who had throat problems.

They soon discovered that they still had the magic that made them successful and have since continued to tour to this day.
