Born Bernard Jewry in 1942, he was hugely influenced by Elvis Presley and Gene Vincent.

He formed His own band in the 60s, "Shane Fenton and The Fentones" releasing 2 singles which were unsuccessful.

 

Then in the early 70s he teamed up with writer and producer Pete Shelley.

The glam Rock scene was well and truly under way and they decided to cash in on this..

 

In 1973 They released "My Coo CA Choo" under the name of Alvin Stardust.

As alvin says himself "We did it as a bit of a joke but it took off".

His image was black leather outfits and quiffed hair and black leather gloves.

(apparently to cover up the fact that hair dye had covered his hands

and he couldnt remove it before his debut "Top of The Pops" appearance.

With his mean and moody look and such a powerful song it went straight up the charts

reaching number 2 in the UK and number 1 all over Europe.

 

 

His follow up was even more successful when "Jealous Mind" hit the number 1 slot in 1974.

He released his first album simply entitled "Alvin" and went on tour with The Sweet and other glam bands.

More hits continued with "Red Dress", "You, You, You" and "Good Love can never Die".

Music Week awarded him "Best Male Recording Artist"

and at the British pop awards he won for "Best live performance".

 

 

Who can forget him starring in the tv ads for The Green CrossCode!

 

In the 1980s he moved to Stiff records

and released the song"Pretend" which became a top 5 hit throughout the world.

His apperance on the "Morecambe and Wise show" was hilarious with backing from Eric and Ernie.

Later he joined Chrysalis records and became their selling male artist

with the hits,"I feel like Buddy Holly" and "i wont run away".

 

Alvin's career has gone from strength to strength,

co producing pop videos, presenting tv specials,his own radio show on radio 2.

He has had two books published.

Was the subject of "This is your life and presented with a music business diamond award.

 

 

Mr Stardust toured the UK with the smash hit musical "Godspell"to name but a few.

He joined the cast of "Hollyoaks", "The Doctors"and appeared in "The Grimleys" with Noddy Holder.

He has done sellout tours with "Showaddywaddy","The Rubettes","Mud"and "The Glitter Band".

 

AlAlvin Stardust is a muli-talented man and still performes and acts to this day.
