In 1972 Mike Leander a hugely talented musician, Songwriter and producer

had the idea to record a new song with a new sound for his friend and artist

the newly named "Gary Glitter".

He needed two saxaphone players and called his friend John Rossall

who brought along fellow sax player Harvey Ellison.

Mike, Gary, John and Harvey played on and recorded" Rock'n'Roll parts 1 and 2".

When the single was released it went into the top twenty peaking at number 2.

Mike Leander and Gary Gltter recieved an invitation to perform the song on "Top of The Pops".

Then panic set in as Gary needed a backing band!

They contacted John Rossall and he quickly brought together a group of musicians

to back Gary Glitter on his debut performance.

They called themselves "The Glitter Band"

Their image certainly lived upto their name.

They designed and wore fantastic stage suits made of satin and sequins.

Later in 1973 the band suggested that they would like to record some of their own material.

As they were now firmly established with Gary Glitter after massive sellout concerts, Mike agreed.

Four tracks were recorded one of which was "Angel Face".

It reached number 4 in the UK in 1974 and became a worldwide hit!

This paved the way for a string of top ten hits in a row,

" Just for You","Lets Get Together Again," Goodbye my love" and "People like you and People like me".

Gerry Shepards trademark "STAR GUITAR" was all part of the bands image.

John Rossall left The Glitter Band at the end of 1975 to pursue a solo career.

Several albums were released and "Hey" and "Rock'n Roll Dudes" became million sellers.

The Glitter Band toured the UK, Europe, Scandinavia and Japan

becoming one of the most succesful groups of the 1970s.

Since this time they have maintained a loyal following with several line up changes and still perfom today.

Gerry Shepard sadly passed away in 2003 after along illness.
