The Sweet Were,
Brian Connolly - Lead Vocals,
Steve Priest- Bass Guitar/ Vocals,
Andy Scott - Guitar/Vocals.
Mick Tucker- Drums/Vocals.

In 1968 they formed as Wainwrights children then in 1970 they became Sweetshop.
They recorded 4 singles which had no success before meeting Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman in 1970,
Who also decided to manage the band.
The Sweet became instantly successful with hits Funny, Funny,Co,Co..
The latter reaching number 2 in 1971.
followed by Pappa Joe and Little Willy iin 1972.

Performing their latest hit Wig Wam Bam in full glam regaliar on Top of the Pops.
!In 1973 changed their image to join Glam Rock Scene with outrageus costumes and make up.
Bassist Steve Priest became the most outrageous wearing a full indian headdress for this!
All the members of Sweet had a fantastic vocal range and the musician ship was superior.
The best was yet to come in the form of Blockbuster which became their only UK number 1.

More hits followed with Hellraiser, Ballroom Blitz (arguably thier best song) and Teenage Rampage.
The band were as outrageous offstage as well as on if not more so.
In 1974 they split from Chinnichap stable preferring to write their own material such as " Fox on theRun"
which was a top ten hit in the UK and US in 1975.
This has since become the Sweets most successful song.
With countless tours and tv performances the band were enjoying immense success.
The Sweets last top ten hit was in 1978 with Love is like Oxygen.
Andy Scott recieved and Ivor Novello award for this song.
However all the partying was taking a particular toll on Lead Vocalist Brian Connolly
and by this time he became a full blown alcoholic.
Trouble was he couldnt cope with it and had several cardiac arrests.
His departure from the band in that year was tragic.
The other members continued as a trio but it would never be the same.
nIn early 1980's Connolly seemed to recover from his traumas
and went on the road again with the sweet but it wasn't to last.
Since 1982 various incarnations of the band appeared with up to two of the original members in each band.
Brian Connolly's health began to deteriate again and he suffered with a muscular disorder.
The Sweets fortunes were revived however when "Ballroom Blitz" was featured in the film Waynes World.
Brian continued to perform as Brian Connolly's Sweet and Andy Scott had his version of the band!

Tradgedy struck
when Brian Connolly died of liver failure on February the 9th 1997 aged 52.
Mick Tucker the Sweet's brilliant drummer passed away in February 2002 from Lukemia.
Their passing was of a great loss to the music world but they will always remembered for their glam rock days.
